  1. Backing Up Microsoft SQL Server Database to Amazon S3 There are several benefits for organizations if they backup their Microsoft SQL Server database to a cloud-based service provider such as Amazon S3. This is critical in today’s data-driven business environment where enterprises seek to optimize their database management systems.

  2. Here are a few of the advantages offered by Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) if you want to backup database SQL Server to S3.

  3. Benefits of S3 · Scalability and Durability – Cloud-based S3 provides separate storage and computing facilities. Users can scale up and down in either of them, paying only for the quantum of resources used. Businesses can, therefore, meet fluctuating storage and computing demands without investing in additional software or hardware. · Affordable – For backing up databases from SQL Server to S3you can utilize different access levels at proportionate rates. S3 Storage Class Analysis helps to discover data that can be migrated to lower-cost storage sections. · Optimized Data Protection and Security – S3 ensures that once data is stored, total protection and data security is in place through encryption features and other management access tools.  · Fast Data and Access Controls – S3 offers high replication, data protection, cost, and access management capabilities. The replication process can be carried out both within the region and outside.  These are some of the benefits of S3 that make backup of data to this platform so attractive.

  4. Types of Back up of SQL Server Databases to S3  · Manual Backup from SQL Server to S3 – There are several steps to follow here. First, an S3 storage bucket has to be created on Amazon Web Services (AWS) which can be accessed through a user account and necessary permissions. The next step is to export the database in SQL Server that has to be backed up into a file. Finally, this file with the exported database has to be uploaded to S3 with either the PowerShell or MSP360Explorer tool.  The main advantage of this manual process is that it is simple and easy to perform. On the other hand, it is a long-drawn-out and tedious process, and recovering the backed up database file from S3 has to be done manually too.  · Repeated Backup with MSP360 – MSP360 ensures continual backup of databases automatically from SQL Server to S3 routinely. All that is required is running the wizard and selecting the target backup storage. You will not only be able to run SQL Server databases to S3 with MSP360 regularly but can also quickly recover databases if required.  · Image-based backup – With MSP360, you can perform an image-based backup and run a cloud disaster recovery solution. In this case, you have to backup the database to a virtual EC2 machine instance in the cloud.  There are several processes to backup database Microsoft SQL Server to S3. The main difference is the time taken in each to backup and restore the data.
