Many of our customers are looking to source reclaimed parquet flooring. Although you might find your builder is less than keen on the idea, it’s worth noting that most reclaimed parquet flooring comes from public buildings which were built between the 1930s and 1960s, at a time when the quality of the materials surpassed many of the new materials available today. There are many rare types of timber available for reuse which really shouldn’t be allowed to be thrown away into landfill sites when they still have a useful purpose.

There is history behind every reclaimed parquet floor, and the blocks we currently sell are from the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. We uplifted these and relaid them, and the surplus blocks are now available for sale to our customers. Each reclaimed parquet floor represents wonderful variety and superb quality and all at very reasonable prices. • classicparquet.co.uk
When originally laid parquet flooring was an expensive option, as it is good quality wood that is hard wearing and could be laid directly onto concrete. More and more modern designers are now using reclaimed parquet to create a “lived in” look. Why stop at flooring? You can use parquet for tabletops, cupboards and even on walls. • classicparquet.co.uk
Builders can cite all sorts of complaints from residual bitumen that they want to remove (it actually needs only the right type of glue, and can be left alone!) to claiming that reclaimed materials are prone to warping and damp, but these arguments stem from the fact that many builders are not patient or experienced enough to work with older materials. In short, change your builder and not your passion – you can have that reclaimed parquet floor if you can find the right floor fitter to give you your ideal floor. • classicparquet.co.uk
If you have something particular in mind, we can help. Although we have our own stocks of parquet materials, we also work with an extensive range of architectural salvage companies throughout Europe, so we can source materials specifically to suit your needs. • classicparquet.co.uk
