  1. Welcome to Central Magnet Engineering Marc Guthrie guthriem@rcschools.net

Classes I Teach – High School • Engineering Design 1 – 2nd Year • Includes all types of engineering from mechanical, electrical, structural, safety, and skill development • Focus on problem solving – a lot of hands on activities that involve multiple answers • Engineering Practicum – 4th Year • Problem solving is the main focus • Includes a webpage/written portion and project • Presentation to industry professionals

  3. Materials Needed for Engineering • Pencil • Pen • Composition Notebook – NOT SPIRAL BOUND • Loose leaf notebook paper as needed • Graph Paper as needed • Scientific Calculator when needed • Build Materials when needed

Expectations • Arrive to class on time • Participate in all class activities • Respect the ideas of others • Use classroom materials appropriately • Report any injury or equipment damage immediately • Cell Phones are not needed in this class • Students must wear closed toed shoes and appropriate clothing in the Engineering lab **Cooperative groups are a major part of this class

Engineering Clubs • TSA – Technology Student Association • Focused on providing opportunities to students to compete in engineering and related fields • Led by Mr. Guthrie, Mrs. Hines, and Mr. Leach • SWE – Society for Women Engineers • Focused on providing opportunities to girls to explore engineering and related fields

Extracurricular Activities for Engineering • ACE – Architecture, Construction, and Engineering • Led by industry professionals who help the students research, develop, and build a model structure • Group of 12 – 15 students • Meets biweekly • Opportunity for a $2000 scholarship • Mr. Bonanno will be the sponsor

Extracurricular Activities for Engineering • FIRST Robotics • Provides opportunities for students to compete in an athletic style contest • Incorporates the engineering design process, teamwork, building, testing, evaluation, and performance • Central Car Club • Associated with Stones River Car Club • See Sergeant Culp for more details
