What is a Coincidental Penalty? • Penalties of equal duration (i.e. Minor/Bench Minor Penalties) are imposed against players on each team during the same stoppage of play • Immediate substitutions shall be made for players who are assessed penalties that are considered coincidental
Procedure for Canceling Coincidental Penalties • Start by canceling major penalties, then cancel minors • In Order of Priority • M – Cancel as any penalties as possible • O – Cancel in a way to make the team only ne player short • T – Cancel in a way to avoid aking another player off the ice • O – Cancel using the order of penalty ccurrence or the order that the penalties were reported by the referee M O T O
Assume all penalties occur during the same stoppage of play A B 2 2 The penalties cancel each other out; teams play at full strength
Assume all penalties occur during the same stoppage of play A B 2 + 2 2 Team A is 1 player short for 2 minutes. Another player from ice will serve the time penalty.
