What to Expect- Session 2014 • Tweaks to SB 736- “Teacher Quality” Bill • Will state admit to flaws and make corrections or continue bad policy? • Additional efforts to Privatize Public Schools • Expansion of Charters and other Schemes • Full blown access to schools- classes that are empty during the day could be turned to charter classrooms • Remove local control • More Attacks on Class Size • Weaken penalties for non-compliance without adding penalties for fraudulent reporting. • More Changes to Retirement Benefits • With this group, change is bad for employees… • Payroll deduction/collective bargaining attacks
Budget Governor’s budget comes out the first week of February. • $850 Million budget surplus • $500 M in Tax Breaks • $100 M to bring tourism to Florida • Medicaid dollars
