RET Preconference at NSTA A Research Community for Teachers: A community of researchers including university faculty, technical staff, post-doctorate fellows and graduate students Open to high school science teachers as enduring and ever-fuller participants in its research Fostering collaborative educational outreach led primary by these high school teachers

    3. Why research communities? Communities can extend and enhance the benefits of research experiences Communities offer a range of benefits beyond those of research experiences

    4. Benefits of research experiences RETs put teachers in contact with scientific communities (research communities) inquiry is modeled current knowledge and standards of practice are communicated resources are made available Meets professional development expectations Makes economic sense

A Research Community for Teachers The Notre Dame QuarkNet Center 7th year of collaboration weekly meetings 40 full time summer research projects (RET, other funding) dozens of presentations at professional meetings 18 teachers (8 five+ years), 79 students 3 generations of research efforts (D0, CMS, ILC) Long-term professional development planning 3-year guided inquiry training with ASU Modeling
