The Innovation Competition • Background • Wider Context • Code fests / hackfest / … • Mashup competitions • Local Context • “JISC should sponsor competitions to explore what can be achieved with lightweight solutions, and not just proposals for 2 year funding.” • (Let’s) Just Do It!: • Let’s encourage the community to try it • Build on successes of the Museum Mashup day • Let’s learn from experiences - and see how to build on the experiences Innovation Competition
The Competition Criteria • Three key aspects: • User-focussed: The benefits to users i.e. what users will gain from using this innovation. • Ease: How the innovation was created and the ease of creating it (lightweight solutions preferred). • “Cool”: What makes this innovation cooler than the rest!! Does it make you say “I wish I’d thought of that!”, “Wow, so simple, yet so powerful” or “We’ll have to do that when we get back”. Innovation Competition Note for managers: Techies, who seek to conserve bandwidth use ‘cool’ (4 Bytes) rather than “development of user focussed solutions which maximise use of scarce resources” (77 Bytes)
