DO NOW • As you walk in pick up your folders and a textbook from the shelf in the back of class. • Open textbook up to 63 and read through 67. • Objective • Students will begin to understand how stress impacts the body.
Stressor: A source of stress (person or situation) • Eustress: Good stress • Going on a first date. • Big football game. • Distress: A negative stress • Failing a test. • Parents getting a divorce.
G.A.S. • General • Adaptation • Syndrome • Changes your body goes through when confronted with stress.
Stage:1 Alarm stage • Adrenalineis released and prepares your body for a quick action. • Pupils dilate • Hearing sharpens • Dry mouth • BP increases • Muscles tighten
Stage 2: Resistance Stage • The body attempts to return back to normal • Muscles relax • Heart rate and BP decrease • Digestion begins again • Saliva increases
Stage 3: Exhaustion Stage • Wear and tear on the body increases risk of disease and accidents. • Body is worn down. • *Usually not experienced if people know how to deal with stress in a positive way.
ANGER CUES • Changes (signs) that occur when you become angry. • Rapid breathing • Increase heart rate • Rise in BP • Increase sweating • Dryness of the mouth ** It is vital that you realize you are becoming angry so you know how to react.
Hidden Anger Anger that is not expressed or that is expressed in a harmful way. Why may hidden anger be so dangerous?
ANGER MANAGEMENT SKILLS These are ways of expressing anger without doing something harmful. These skills allow you to not blow up or act out. ***** THE KEY IS TO NOT IGNORE THE FACT YOU ARE ANGRY!
