  6. Cycling in the Rain & Spring • Many people love riding a bicycle in the rain and they have reasons for it. • The basic key to swift and safe riding in the rain, lies on the fact that you must be relaxed, smooth and confident. THINGS YOU NEED TO CONSIDER WHEN RIDING IN THE RAIN • Be relaxed/loosen up The first thing to sort out while considering riding in the rain is that you need to be very relaxed and supple when cycling in order to ensure a smooth ride. Do not try to sit too upright with your back straight or rigid. • Do away from slick spots You have to pay attention to prevent paint street surfaces which can get very slippery when wet and do not ever cross railroad tracks at a sharp angle.

  7. Cycling in the Rain & Spring 3. Sit well and slow down Stay seated most especially when climbing because then you have less tire traction. Don’t punch it across corners; slow down at first then normal to initiate curves. 4. Turning Gently slide your finger through a smooth surface and it will glide across, also push down with increasing force and it will start to grip.  5. Keep to commuter paths Commuter lanes are harmless in the rain because they are less crowded, which means more visibility and control. Stick to commuter lane when cycling.

  8. Cycling in the Rain & Spring TIPS TO BE CONSIDERED BY RAIN CYCLERS • Dress to Stay Dry The wetter you get the colder you become. Getting cold and wet is a fast way to get sick. Wear a wicking underline that is made from wool or polypropylene and get woollen socks. • Chain Lube Make use of a heavier chain lube. It is advisable to have a chain which involves cleaning than to have it freeze up with rust.  • Get it Lighted up Let everyone be aware that you are there. Heavy rain and the brightness from auto headlights lessen cyclist’s vision; it is a very good idea to ride with a bright lamp.

  9. Cycling in the Rain & Spring 4. Clear your Lenses When cycling in the rain, do not use normal sunglasses because it can make road obstacles difficult to see.
