All that changed when Johanson was two. His father died, leaving the family without any means of support. 4. Field of Science he/she studied/studies • Donald johnason is an American paleoanthropologist • Along with Maurice Taieb and Yves Coppens, he is known for discovering the fossil of a female hominid australopithecine known as Lucy in the afar triangle region of harder, Ethiopia.

  5. Important scientific exploration • East Africa is a region with some of the most significant and oldest paleoanthropological finds in the world. Paleoanthropology is the study of early hominids (primates belonging to the Hominidae family, including modern humans and their ancestors). Paleoanthropologists such as Mary and Louis Leakey, and Donald Johanson have made important discoveries of hominid skeletons and artifacts in East Africa that have helped scientists to piece together how human beings may have evolved.

  6. Influence on today’s Society • Donald came up with a good way to cure Lucy.

  7. Interesting Personal Facts • One of the most accomplished scholars of human origins, Donald Johanson has produced some of the field’s most groundbreaking discoveries, including the most widely known and thoroughly studied fossil of the 20th century, the 3.2-million-year-old “Lucy” skeleton, which is currently touring the U.S. for the first time in history.
