RefWorks Introduction • Early exploration of product in 2002 • Adoption by campus libraries (centrally purchased) in 2004 • Implementation group formed in 2004
Initial Outreach: Library Instruction Staff • Undergraduate target • Support for teaching librarians • Developed UW-Madison Libraries RefWorks website • Help pages tailored to local resources • 5-minute RefWorks demo module that could be inserted into class sessions
RefWorks Working Group • Representatives for different disciplines • Experts available for consultation • Shared responsibility for answering email • Maintain help pages and documentation • Stay abreast of interface changes • Planning for outreach & marketing • RefWorks workshops
Outreach to Undergraduates • Workshops • Course-integrated instruction • Library Course Pages • Handouts with targeted audiences • Students: “want a quick way to create bibliographies…?” • Faculty: “want to improve the organization & appearance of your students’ citations…”
Workshops • Campus Library & Information Literacy Instruction Program • Shared course and workshop materials • Offer “scripts” and standard handouts • Can be customized, but ensure similar approach across campus

Working Group Planning • Yearly theme • 2005/2006: promotion/marketing materials • 2006/2007: assessment • 2007/2008: RefWorks as a teaching tool • 2008/2009: Integrating RefWorks into environments where users work & interact (UW Libraries strategic direction)
