Shape An element of art that is 2-dimensional and encloses space. Something used to determine a form. Shapes can be geometric or free-form.
Form An element of art that is 3-dimensional and encloses space. It can be geometric or free-form.
Geometric Shapes or Forms that relate to geometry/mathematics Circles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, rectangles, octagons, etc.
Free-Form Shapes or Forms that are irregular and uneven. These shapes are often natural / organic.
Proportion A principle of design concerned with the size relationship of one part to the whole and one part to the other. Example: comparing the width of an object to its height.
Sketch A quick, rough drawing without much detail that can be used as a plan for later work. Lines that are used to represent the basic shapes, sizes, and proportions of an object in the beginning stages of a drawing.
