Why is this an important topic? • Getting out of debt takes a lot of the following: • Time • Energy • Money • Sacrifice • Usually forced to make changes in our life to become debt free • Such an emotional journey to climb the mountain • Get to the to the top and ask yourselves "Now What"

Debt Free is not the end . . . • Only the beginning! • You get to climb bigger and better mountains • You get to control the pace • Climb as high as you want to
What to do after you are debt free • First thing you want to do is get your emergency fund funded • Recommend six months worth of expenses • Keeps you from having to go right back to where you came from!
Benefits of an emergency fund • Turns a crisis into an inconvenience • Don't have to turn to credit for a broken down car • Won't lose steam when something unexpected pops up • Allows you to take more calculated risks • Know you have next month's mortgage payment • Not worry about how the stock market is doing • Increased Job security • Don't have to worry about getting fired • More confident and bold in the workplace • Better able to sleep at night • Don't have to sit up and worry about the economy • Can better focus on improving your own economy
What to do with all your extra cash? It's a good problem to have!
Get to choose to do with it what you want to! • Get to pay yourself first instead of paying the bank! • Having all this extra money can be overwhelming • Still need to have a goals and dreams • Tendency is to get sloppy with our finances • Counteract that by still doing a budget • Difference is that you can add to your budget • Instead of taking stuff out to pay the bank • Continuing to do a budget will take your finances from good to great

Things to save for in your budget-Next car purchase • Be done with car payments for life! • Put a car payment in your budget and pay yourself the car payment. • Get a better deal paying with cash • Hardest one to save up for and buy with cash is your first one
Things to save up for in your budget-House projects • Now is the time to do those repairs that you have been putting off • Remodeling • New Furniture • Painting • Redecorate • All in cash!
Things to save up for in your budget-Vacation • You may or may not have taken a vacation in a while • Great way to celebrate the end of your debt free journey by celebrating as a family • The best vacations are the one's that don't follow you home
Things to save up for in your budget-Down payment on a home • Still renting and wanting to purchase a home? • Now is a great time to purchase a home. • Put yourself in a great position to purchase a home • The bigger the down payment the more home you can purchase.

Things to invest in: Retirement accounts • With no debt and an emergency fund, perfectly set up to start saving for retirement • Goal is to be putting 15% of your income into retirement • Can't do 15% at least start somewhere and build your way up • Invest in tax-favored vehicles • 401(K), 403(B), TSP • IRA (Prefer ROTH over traditional) • Will grow quickly by constantly contributing each month.
What should I invest in? • Invest in things you understand • Don't take advice from "I heard, she says, and everybody says" • Have someone teach you and explain it to you • "Know what you own, and know why you own it." - Peter Lynch • Invest in things that are within your risk tolerance • Invest with a long term perspective • Won't need this money tomorrow • Be ready to ride the roller coaster • Invest in things that have a long track record

Things to invest in: Real Estate • Real Estate is a good way to diversify your portfolio • Great time to buy a real estate • There are some bargains out there if you are patient
Things to invest in: Your own business • People dream about being their own boss and going out on their own • Don't have to be debt free before you start a business • But being debt free allows you to infuse some cash into your business • Start to turn your dream into a reality
Things to invest in: Yourself! • "Invest in yourself. Your career is the engine of your wealth." - Paul Clitheroe • Investing in yourself is THE best investment you can make • What areas in life do you want to improve in? • What classes can you take? • What certification do you need? • What seminars can you attend? • Invest in your family, marriage, and faith • Continuous process

Things to remember with spending • What do you want to do that you aren't doing now with your spending? • Is there anything you want to add back to your budget that you had to take out? • Cable • Eating out • Clothing • Remember it's not bad to spend • Reason you got out of debt in the first place! • Demonstrated good habits in getting out of debt • There's a difference between being frugal and being cheap!

Become a bigger giver • Most people want to give more -- Now you can! • Change lives by giving to causes that you believe in • Can perform random kind acts for people • Realize that it is truly better to give than to receive • Get the whole family involved in giving • Giving is one of the best things you can do with money . . . if not the best. • “The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.” - Albert Einstein
Things to consider down the road • Everything you budget and save up for can't be done in a year or two • Some things takes years of patience to accomplish including: • Paying off your house early • How awesome would it be to be 100% Debt Free? • Paying extra each month on your mortgage saves years and interest • Saving for your child's education • Decide ahead of time how much you would like to contribute • Save early and get your child a head start on their education
See all the options you have being debt free? • Depending on your income you can only do so many of these things • Need to prioritize what's most important to you • Work together if you are married • It will look different to each family and individual • Make sure the Emergency Fund is in place 1st • Then do the things you have been putting off • Next start investing • Finally, anything left over, allocate how you choose • Debt free gives you more options . . and more responsibility!
Don't be afraid to dream BIG! • Start to predict your expenses ahead of time 3-5 years in advance • In pencil, not pen • Ask yourself "What do I want to do 3 years from now?" • 5 years from now? 10 years from now? • Won't get done unless you think of ways to get it done! • Set goals and write them down • Think with the end in mine • Work backwards and figure out how to accomplish them
