  1. Anti-Allergen Cleaning A New Service For A New Millennium MasterBlend®

  2. Allergies, Carpet & The Indoor Environment MasterBlend®

  3. Carpet & Allergy Claims • In 1973, Swedish government believed that allergies were caused by wall to wall carpet. • Carpet was banned from public facilities 1973–1990. • Carpet’s market share dropped from 40% to 2%. • Allergy cases up 600% in same time period. • It is now known carpets are not the problem. Removal of carpet does not improve allergies. Regular cleaning of all home furnishings is key.

  4. Risk Assessmentof the Indoor Environment

  5. According to the EPA • Indoor air pollution is ranked among the top five environmental risks to public health. • This is important as most people spend 90% of their time indoor. • Children are most at risk.

  6. American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology “Fifty percent of all illnesses are caused by or aggravated by polluted indoor air”

  7. Asthma • Since 1980, the prevalence of asthma has increased 75% in North America. • It is the most common chronic disease among children.

  8. Allergies Are A Growing Problem Over 40 million Americans suffer from allergies due to home biopollution: dog and cat dander, dust mite and cockroach allergens.

  9. Allergen Sources - Biopollutants These act as triggers for allergies: • Dust Mites – Der p1 - is the protein found in mite fecal matter that causes allergic reactions • Pets - Can f1 & Fel d1- are the proteins from cats and dogs that causes allergic reactions • Cockroaches - Bla g1- the protein found in fecal matter of roaches that causes allergic reactions • Mold and Fungi

  10. Dust Mites The Number One Source of Indoor Allergens MasterBlend®

  11. Dust Mite: Biology 101 • Classified as Arachnids (Spiders) • Microscopic Primitive Creatures • They feed on flakes of human skin • Found in mattresses, pillows, bedding . . . • So small they pass through weave of fabric • Their fecal matter contains a protein called Der P 1 that triggers allergies

  12. Dust Mites Taking a Ride on a Flea

  13. National Allergen Survey • In 2002 The National Institute of Environmental Health found 46% of North American homes have bedding with enough dust mite allergens to cause allergies. • The market for anti-allergen cleaning is approximately half of the homes in North America.

  14. Pet Allergies – Number Two Allergen In The Home • Caused by proteins in the pet’s dander (dead skin that is shed), saliva, and urine. • Cats persistent nature of self-cleaning causes 80% of the serious reactions. This grooming causes the allergens to become airborne.

  15. Home Environment SpecialistWhat Can We Do To Help?

  16. It Is Very Clear Biopollutants Trigger Allergies The System: Clean with ResponsibleCare™ Hypo- Allergenic products. Use the hot water extraction method to clean the home furnishings Apply Allergy Relief Treatment to reduce future allergens -not a pesticide

  17. Allergen Evaluation When the homeowner questions why clean my mattress? – do this test • Collect dust from mattress by dry vacuuming. Place a black cloth over the vacuum hose and extract about 1 square foot of the mattress. • Show skin and dust to home owner and she will want to have it cleaned.

  18. Anti-Allergen Cleaning ProceduresThe ResponsibleCare™ System • Vacuum: mattresses, carpet, furniture, etc. • Hot Water Extraction Cleaning: Use Anti-Allergen PreSpray & Anti-Allergen Rinse (Use Anti- Allergen Deodorizer if necessary) • Final Step: The application of Allergy Relief Treatment to control allergens between regular cleanings.

  19. Use one of the “dry” upholstery tools for mattress cleaning

  20. Method of pulling the Anti-Allergen Deodorizer into mattress center for urine decontamination

  21. How Does The Treatment Work? And What Is Denature? • In order for the body to recognize something as an allergen it has to receive many copies of the same thing. • Mite allergens all have the same shapes on the outside. • Once they have been denatured they become so amorphous (formless) they do not present the same shapes to the body and reactions do not occur.

  23. Allergen Analysis – A Case Study • Before and after cleaning - air sampling was taken from the Foldes resident in Simpsonville, SC. • The home was cleaned with the hot water extraction method using ResponsibleCare products and treated with Allergen Relief Treatment. • Samples taken by Perfection Indoor Environmental Inspections and sent to Aerotech Lab on 30 March 2004 • Threshold Reference: Field Guide for the Determination of Biological Contaminants in Environmental Samples, AIHA, 1996
