Hard Words • 20 Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." (Matt. 8:20 NAU) • “Lay my head” “I am poor” • Scribe thought he could get a financial gain from following Jesus
Hard Words • 21 Another of the disciples said to Him, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. “But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead." • “Bury my father” “my father is old and I must take care of him” • When a man cannot work he was considered dead • “Allow the dead bury their dead” “let others take care of their own problems”
The Storm • Echoes the Jonah narrative • Why fear? • Faith that Jesus is with us in good and bad times • Discipleship was/is a hard life • Also, Jesus is identified as a true prophet of God
