  1. Being a disciples ofJesus Christ Matthew 4:18-22

  2. Introduction • Imagine the scene • Personal story about coming to know Jesus • Who brought you to Jesus? • Parents, siblings, grandparents, who? • You probably brought people to Jesus • Some you know • Some you don’t know • Some who you tried but thought you failed • Never give up!

  3. Culture of Capernaum • Fishing town • Fish was the main staple with bread • Fishermen spent equal amount of time mending nets as to fishing • People of Capernaum, and beyond, depended on fishermen.

  4. For us today -- What does it mean to be fishers of men? • To be constantly mending our nets to do Jesus’ work • To supply spiritual food which is life with Jesus • Teaching that spiritual food is necessary to life • Helping people to mend their “nets” – repairing sinful lives • Teaching by word and example to live by Jesus’ words • Doing the work of the Messiah – bringing people to God!
