  2. IntroductionAn unusual meeting with James and John’s motherMothers did not usually get involved in their grown son’s business – my why?

Mom • Author of Matthew is hiding the infighting • The inner-circle was Peter, James, and John • Peter was emerging as the 2nd in command • James and John wanted that number 2 position • Rank and hierarchy invaded – left and right-hand request • A warning to the Matthew church and us about politics in church • Paul instituted hierarchy – he never met Jesus, so he did not know better

  4. Cup of Death • Culture of the Cup of Death • Poison in a wine cup • Kings, Princes, Nobleman had food tasters (included drinks)

  5. For Us Today • We cannot change the hierarchy of the greater church – too embedded • We can flatten our hierarchy • Our going to one administrative team is the way to do it • We must always remember to treat everyone in our church equally
