Climate Action Plan (CAP) • An official campus-approved plan or roadmap to achieve climate neutrality • Integrated with master and strategic plans • Designed to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions • Living, flexible document adjustable to • New challenges • Opportunities • Scientific understanding
Sustainability Committee’s Role • Develop Climate Commitment Mission Statement • A statement of principles and goals that addresses all aspects of the College’s commitment including those pertaining to changes in academic and research program and GHG emissions reductions. • Recommend “CAP Task Force” members • Work with Admin Services
Task Force Responsibility • Overall CAP development, coordination, analysis, goal setting, and preparation • Oversee Task Force sub-committees • Curriculum and Research • Energy and Solid Waste • Greenhouse Gas Inventory • Communications • Transportation
Curriculum and Research • Responsible for developing aspects of CAP which will introduce climate change and sustainability into the curriculum, and enhance research to address climate change.
Energy and Solid Waste • Responsible for developing the energy conservation on-site renewables, green power purchasing, new construction/green design, CFCs and carbon offsets GHG emissions reduction strategies and projects.
Greenhouse Gas Inventory • Responsible for creating, interpreting and periodically updating your campus GHG inventory.
Communications • Responsible for • (a) keeping the campus community up-to-date on your school’s climate action efforts • (b) developing and implanting plans to involve the community as much as possible in both the planning process and in actions that reduce GHG emissions.
Transportation • Responsible for developing fleet vehicles, campus bussing, commuting and air travel components of your plan.
