  1. Peter Wilson All Experimenters Meeting 27 Feb 2011 Changes to PPD Engineering Organization

  2. Re-Organization Principals and Motivations Focus on new projects: • Complete NOvA Construction • MicroBOONe Construction • Mu2e and G-2 Experiments • LHC Experiment Upgrades • LBNE Change in future detector needs suggest evolving focus of groups • Fewer large silicon trackers but work on CCDs (SiDet) • Focus on cyrogenic detectors (Mech Eng and Cryo Tech) Change of operations focus • Operate Intensity Frontier experiments • Operate Testbeam • Decommission CDF & D0 (short term) • Technicians redeploy to construction projects and detector development. Small impact on engineering Increase scientific staff engaged in operating these organizations February 27, 2012

  8. Acknowledgements Reorganization not possible without work of many people in the division Planning effort over the past year by the engineering department heads: Bob, Horst, Kurt, and Rick Input from group leaders, scientific staff, technical staff Major effort by division office administrative staff to handle changes starting with input to planning through execution of all the changes Finally, this could never have been completed with the tremendous effort by Karen Kephart on all aspects of the reorganization February 27, 2012

  9. PPD Engineering Re-Organization Timeline Early 2011: Reorganization started with dissolving Site Dept (to ES&H, EED, TC) Nov 2011: Created Alignment and Metrology Dept Reorganized Electrical Engineering Dept Jan 2012: Created Detector Development and Operations from Technical Centers and technician groups of Mechanical Dept Renamed remainder of Mechanical Dept to Mechanical Engineering Dept A few groups merged, a few groups have new group leaders, a couple of new groups created Throughout 2012: Individuals move locations to fit with new groups and in one or two cases may have whole group find new space better suited to future.
