  1. Bluetooth®Upgrade For the Lifepak 15 Orange County Emergency Services 2014

What is Bluetooth® ? • Bluetooth® technology is technology that allows you to share voice, data, music, photos, videos and other information wirelessly between paired devices. • Mobile phones, FM radio and television all use radio waves to send information wirelessly. Bluetooth®technology exchanges data over shorter distances using radio transmissions. • When two Bluetooth® enabled devices connect to each other, this is called pairing.

  3. What has Bluetooth®? • What has Bluetooth® connection? • The Ambulance • The Laptop Computer • The Lifepak 15 Monitor • You will use Bluetooth® to connect and transmit your data from the Lifepak 15 monitor to the Zoll Program using the ambulance’s connection.

  4. How Do They Connect To Each Other? • You MUST secure the connectivity to the truck and to the laptop computer using your monitor at the beginning of each shift. • Each device will now be able to communicate once they are in range and Bluetooth® technology is on. • Devices must be connected (and paired) in order to communicate. • Once connected, the monitor will re-connect to the truck automatically once it is within range. This range is a good distance however you might have instances where you need to move closer to the ambulance. • Once a device has been found it, will continue to display the device in the device options list.

  5. Lifepak 15 Bluetooth®

  6. At The Beginning of Every Shift: • Turn on the monitor • Scroll using the speed dial, located at the bottom right corner of the monitor to the Bluetooth® icon at the top of the screen. This is done by scrolling UP 2 clicks. • Push the speed dial IN to select the Bluetooth®icon.

  7. At The Beginning of Every Shift: • With The Connection Screen Up • Scroll to Connection, select Find devices • Once device is found, hit stop by pressing the speed dial in. It will return you to connection screen. • It should now be connecting you to the device.

  8. Is The Monitor’s Bluetooth® Connected? NO! YES!

  9. Next: Connect Computer’s Bluetooth® • Use the LifeNet Device Icon on the desktop to connect your computer to Bluetooth® • One status will say “Failed to Initialize”(this is the connection if you use a cable) and one will say “Ready”. Connection is ready LifeNet Icon at the bottom of screen

  10. Pairing the LifePak Monitor and Your Laptop • Repeat Steps you used above to connect to the truck, only this time connect to your laptop device. • Go To Find Devices on Life Pak Monitor, Search, Select Device and Connect!

  12. How to Transmit to Zoll(Patient Care Charting Software) • Verify the Connectivity. The monitor should be connected to the Laptop Number on top of the Toughbook (ie. OCT-911M) • Verify the Connectivity to Bluetooth® on the Laptop using LifeNetsoftware. • From Active Call or Archives on LifePak monitor: press transmit. Select Data you wish to transmit to the laptop. Verify the Location is the Laptop you are holding. • It will transmit quickly to 99% then delay until transmitted. This is normal and to be expected as the data makes its way through thebluetooth connection to the computer.

  13. How to Transmit to a Facility (UNC, Alamance) • Verify Connectivity From Monitor to Ambulance. You may need to move closer to the ambulance for connection. • Verify Patient information is on the Data you wish to send. (Last Name, Age, Sex etc.) • From Active Call or Archives on the LifePak, press transmit. • Verify the location you wish to transmit is selected. • Verify the correct patient of the data you wish to send • Select the data you wish to send . (ie. 12-Lead 1) • Press send. • It will transmit up to 99% quickly then delay while the data makes its way through the Gateway.

  14. CodeSTAT • CodeSTAT is a new program that we can use to analyze cardiac arrests. When you have a cardiac arrest we want you to transmit the data to codestat. • You will upload to your computer like normal and then transmit to CodeSTAT

  15. How to Transmit to CodeSTAT • Verify Connectivity From Monitor to Ambulance. You may need to move closer to the ambulance for connection. • Verify Patient information is on the Data you wish to send. (Last Name, Age, Sex etc.) • From Active Call or Archives on the LifePak, press transmit. • Verify the location you wish to transmit is selected. • This will be CODESTAT in this instance. • Verify the correct patient of the data you wish to send • Select the data you wish to send . (ie. 12-Lead 1) • Press send. • It will transmit up to 99% quickly then delay while the data makes its way through the Gateway.

  16. Get an Error Message? • Before you call, Try these alternatives: • The cliché but proven “Power Down and Restart” Method • Reconnecting Bluetooth® to devices • Verify you are close in Range to the Ambulance • Verify you are not in the “Dead Zone” areas that are sporadic through Orange County. (Where you have no radio or cell phone signal either). • Verify the Wireless switch on the side of the Laptops is not switched to off. Doing this will shut off capabilities. • Verify the devices you are connected to are the correct devices. (Did off going shift get a new computer and forget to mention?; Did you switch trucks?; etc. )

  17. Time To Make A Phone Call • Call your Supervisor first if you are having Bluetooth® Connectivity issues. They have the cable cords for you to use until the problem is fixed or a solution is found. • The Supervisors will call the necessary parties (Scott, Billy, Kevin, IT) if needed. • Did something very-very-weird, bad, confusing, it-was-just-working-a-minute-ago happen? Refer to the Error Message Alternatives and then call your supervisor.
