Tip #1 • The first word of a direct quote should begin with a capital. Example: Mom asked, “Do you need help?” Notice: “We are going home,” said Dad, “and then we’ll eat dinner.” (Do you know why the word “and” is not capitalized?) A. Hamaker, C. Godwin
Tip #2 • Capitalize the first word of the opening and closing of a letter. Example: Dear Adam, Yours truly, A. Hamaker, C. Godwin
