  1. Wind – Horizontal movements of air.

  2. Currents, Updrafts, or Downdrafts – Vertical air movements.

  3. Conduction – The transfer of heat by direct contact. How an electric stove heats a teakettle.

  4. Air will always, if allowed, flow from a region of higher pressure to a region of lower pressure.

  5. Sea Breeze – A cool breeze that moves toward the land to replace rising warm air from the land during the day.

  6. Forest Breeze – Cooler air from under the forest canopy replaces the warm rising air from open terrain.

  7. Valley Breeze – A wind that blows upward from the valley in order to replace warm rising air coming off the exposed peaks of a mountain.

  8. Mountain Breeze – When the mountain air becomes cooler than the valley air, and rushes in to replace it. Usually happens at night.

  9. Katabatic Winds – Movements of cold air from higher elevations to lower elevations.

  10. Windward Side – The side of the mountain facing the wind.

  11. Leeward Side – the side of the mountain away from the wind.
