  3. Training • 2010-2011 Training: • OBC 2012 Energy Efficiency Requirements (Completed at OFNTSC Annual Conference). • In the process of technical training needs assessment. • Training as requested- CMHC will subsidize.

  4. Update • Infrastructure Specialist Internship • To address the shortfall of experienced and trained technical advisors/building inspectors. • Two youth as infrastructure specialist/building inspector interns for a one-year period- north and south.

Update Ontario First Nations Steering Committee on Housing- Chiefs of Ontario • Last meeting September 14, 2011 - OFNTSC Thunder Bay. • Meeting Agenda • STEERING COMMITTEE ON HOUSING - DISCUSSION • COO / PTO / IFN / OFNTSC Committee Representation • Ontario First Nations Limited Partnership Proposal Submission (OFNLP) • Strategic Plan Review • REVIEWING RESOLUTIONS FROM PREVIOUS AOCC’s and SCA’s • Indigenous Building Science Centre of Excellence • Housing and Infrastructure Gap Analysis • Next meeting December 6, 2011- OFNTSC Toronto

  6. Update 10th Annual Northern Housing Conference • Scheduled to take place on February 14-16, 2012 at the Valhalla Inn. • Conference theme- “A Decade of Building Together” • More information is available on website www.northernhousingconference.com.

  7. Update R2000/EnerGuide Rating Service/Energy Star for New Homes • Contribution agreement proposal submitted to NRCan. • Total funding $25,000. • This year, it is proposed that $4000.00 of the contributions go towards paying $400 incentive to Tribal Council energy advisors. The goal is to achieve 10 EnerGuide Rating Labels. • Holdback Release submitted which completes contribution agreement 09-10.

  8. Initiatives Housing as a Business (HaaB) • OFNTSC was invited to participate in a “Housing as a Business” initiative of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada – Ontario Region. The objective is to help facilitate change in attitudes of all First Nation housing stakeholders to consider the feasibility of housing as a revenue generator or an economic driver. • OFNTSC was asked to participate on the Advisory team along with other First Nations and government such as AANDC, CMHC and others.

  9. The goals of the advisory team are: • Help advance the Housing as a Business (HaaB) concept on First Nations as determined by the First Nation. • Recommend and guide strategic HaaB plans and priorities for the First Nation. • Recommend specific actions and best practices to develop HaaB on your First Nation. • Foster communication among First Nations practitioners that wish to develop Housing as a Business on their First Nation • Focus on changing attitudes to consider housing as a business rather than a social or capital program. • Help develop several Ontario First Nation HaaB sponsored demonstration projects. • Evaluate, monitor and make recommendations to stakeholders and practitioners on the demonstration projects to enhance the success of the businesses. • Develop specific tools and templates for HaaB practitioners • For more information www.haab.ca
