1. Survey on international programmes in FE colleges BC conducted the survey on 148 colleges nation wide (Feb – March 08, Email & Phone) Objectives: - To identify key persons in charge of international programmes - To figure out demand on partnership building with UK institutions 68(46%) colleges answered the survey questionnaire
2. Issues in Korean FE colleges “Employment rate is higher, but income is much lower” • Employment rate of college graduates is higher than that of university graduates by over 15% • However, Income gap between college graduates and university graduates is wide by 15~30% Employment Rate Monthly Income 83.9% : FE 800 KRW 67.1% : HE Unit: Thousand KRW Source: Ministry of Education, August 2007 Source: Korean Council for College Education, November 2007

Background and Objectives Phase 1 Market Research Phase 2 Market Research • Conducted in Feb – March 07 • Qualitative study with 29 institutions • Objectives: • To figure out demand for partnerships with UK institutions in general • To address the issues that prevent Korean institutions form creating links with UK institutions • Conducted in March – April 08 • Quantitative study with 62 universities • Objectives: • To figure out partnerships by the level, type, and subject area that Korean universities have developed with overseas institutions • To identify Korean universities’ needs in creating links with UK institutions by the level, type and subject area • To explore how ready or open Korean universities are in terms of receiving international students/faculty, offering Int’l summer school and lectures in English
