Who is he? • Clay shirky is an american writer, his topic of focus is mainly social and ecenomic effects of internet technologies and journalism. • In 2017 he was appointed Vice Provost of Educational Technologies of New York University, after serving as Chief Information Officer at NYU Shanghai from 2014 to 2017.
What is his theory? • Clay looks at the impact that media has on the consumer and was one of the first theorists that understood how audiences would react to certain forms of media. • He thinks that if an audience is given something to do through the use of a social media platform that they are more likely to remember or be influenced by that post. • For example, if a singer posts a picture with the caption of 'throwback to something' then you would most likely scroll past and forget, however if they post that same picture with a link in the caption saying 'click here to buy my merch' or 'follow this account for more behind the scenes content' then that consumer is far more likely to interact with that artist and remember them.
