Science Goal: To observe the variation in the dust SED between disks We will observe the dust continuum emission from all 28 Class 0/I disks in the Ophiuchus molecular cloud identified by c2d (Enoch et al. 2009) Receivers: Bands 3, 6, 7 & 9 (110, 230, 345 and 690 GHz)

Science Goal: To observe the variation in the dust SED between disks We will observe the dust continuum emission from all 28 Class 0/I disks in the Ophiuchus molecular cloud identified by c2d (Enoch et al. 2009) Receivers: Bands 3, 6, 7 & 9 (110, 230, 345 and 690 GHz) Angular Resolution: Not important. If we assume that a typical circumstellar disk is 100 AU and that Ophiuchus is 125 pc away, we will not resolve the disks in all ALMA ES bands, so we do not attempt to study variations within each disk. Spectral Resolution: N/A – We assume 4 GHz bandwidth when calculating the observing time needed in the ALMA sensitivity calculator Continuum Sensitivity: We calculate the point source sensitivity needed for 10 sigma detection in each band. We assume that the disk mass is 0.01 M_sun, a dust temperature of 20 K, a plausible dust emissivity and a distance of 125 pc. We find that we need sensitivities of: (0.4 mJy @ 110 GHz, 3 mJy @ 230 GHz, 8 mJy @ 345 GHz, 40 mJy @ 690 GHz) Multiwavelength Continuum Survey of Class 0/I disks in Ophiuchus
Observing Time: (45s @ 110GHz, 3s @ 230 GHz, 2s @ 345 GHz, 2s @ 690 GHz) per disk We use the ALMA sensitivity calculator, putting in the RA and Dec of Ophiuchus, an effective bandwidth of 4 GHz, default water vapor, 16 antennas in the 12m array, 0 antennas in the 7m and total power arrays, and the sensitivities listed above. The total observing time required if the disks were point sources is ½ hr for all 28 disks, not including: time on calibrators, slew time, settle time, tuning time, etc. However, the disks are likely to be resolved at 690 GHz and it would be nice to have proper uv-coverage for these disks to constrain their sizes. In this case, the observing time is set by the need for uv-coverage not S/N. To do: Use simdata to determine XXX hours of uv coverage per target with 16 antennas, which we will achieve by observing each disk several times over the course of the XXX hours.
