  2. What is considered plagiarism? Plagiarism has proved to be a big issue among today's students. Teachers and administration will continue to stress the importance of educating you, the learner, on what plagiarism is and steps on how to avoid academic punishment due to plagiarism. http://youtu.be/3DTZzvV9KTY The use of another's person words, image, or brand and passing it off as your own original thought. Copy and pasting web site content without giving credit to the author. Omitting quotation marks on content found on another source. Using words from another source with the incorrect information or citation. Using words and the same sentence structure of a source without citations.

The ultimate goal is to inform you of the types of plagiarism, and how to avoid plagiarism issues within your work.   4. What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is when someone takes credit for someone else's words or thoughts.

  5. What are the different types of plagiarism? Types of plagiarism include: • Full plagiarism- This is also known as 'complete plagiarism'. Whenever a writer copies the content from another source as it is, it is called full plagiarism. In such a kind of plagiarism, the writer changes nothing from the original source, and there is an absolute lack of original research. • Partial plagiarism- When a person combines data from two or three different sources in his work, it amounts to partial plagiarism. This kind of plagiarism pertains to copying someone else's work, not fully, but partly. • Minimalistic plagiarism- Minimalistic plagiarism is done when a person paraphrases the same content but in a different flow. In this kind, the plagiarist attempts to copy ideas, opinions, thoughts and concepts of another author, in such a way that his work does not seem like it has been plagiarized. • Source Citation- When the complete source information with quotes is provided, it does not amount to plagiarism. However, the definition of a complete source citation varies in various contexts.

Some students: • Are looking for a shortcut. • Are faced with too many choices and put off assignments. • Have poor time management skills and limited organizational skills. • Feel they cannot do well on the assignment. • Just like to break the rules.

  7. What is paraphrasing? • Paraphrasing is taking the main idea from a passage and writing it into your own words or thoughts.

  8. What is a reference? • A reference is a citation that tells you the source of where you found your information or ideas.

  9. What is Internet plagiarism? • Internet plagiarism means copying information form the Internet word-for-word without giving credit.

What are some general academic punishments for plagiarism? • Punishments can be: • You deprive yourself of necessary thinking skills and learning. • You hurt the person who you stole the information from. • You receive a zero for your grade. • You are suspended from school. • You may be expelled.

What steps can you do to prevent plagiarism? • Discuss concerns or ideas with your instructor. • Plan your paper out thoroughly along with a time line. • Take notes on your research and stay organized with your sources. • Cite any sources if you are not sure if you need to. • Make sure your sources are clear and correct. • Learn how to paraphrase effectively. • Make sure your sources are reliable.

  12. How do I know when I must give credit for a source? Credit should be given to the author when: • Words and ideas are taken from any form of print, song, web page, video, letter, or advertisement. • information is used from an interview, telephone conversation, or face to face meeting. • When exact words are copied. • When you reprint images, diagrams, illustrations, charts, or any visual material. • When you reuse or repost any material for new.

  14. What are the differences among quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing? • Quotations must be identical to the original. • Paraphrasing means putting a passage from a source into your own words. • Summarizing is to put main ideas into your own words.
