  1. Strategies for Analyzing Data Remotely • No IDL license required: • View Quicklook plots at RHESSI Data and Software Center • View prepared plots via HEDC browser • Submit data processing batch jobs at HEDC • Access through Web browser, account required to log in

  2. Strategies for Analyzing Data Remotely (cont.) • IDL license required: • Valid IDL license (Version 5.6 or greater) required • Install IDL and SSW • Define RHESSI environment variables (in $SSW/site/setup/setup.hessi_env) as follows: • Set HSI_DATA_ARCHIVE to blank or a directory on your computer • Set HSI_DATA_USER to a directory on your computer • Example: • setenv HSI_DATA_ARCHIVE setenv HSI_DATA_USER C:/hessidata • After entering SSW IDL, type • search_network, /enable to automatically retrieve from GSFC, SSL, or HEDC server • (search_network, /disable disables this mode) • Or, if you are traveling, type hsi_server, /ssl (or /gsfc, or /hedc) to explicitly choose server • (You can put this command in your IDL startup file if you always want it enabled.) • Or copy the files manually from GSFC archive or HEDC archive to HSI_DATA_USER • RHESSI software looks in the filedb database (distributed with SSW) to determine files needed for your request, searches for them first in HSI_DATA_ARCHIVE, then in HSI_DATA_USER, and if not found, copies them from the server to your HSI_DATA_USER directory.

  3. Strategies for Analyzing Data Remotely (cont.) • Tips: • Mirror the observing summary files to your computer • ~4GB currently • Look in FAQ for instructions • If Observing Summary Files on your computer are an old version, the software will warn you, but use them. If Level-0 Files on your computer are an old version, it will not use them. So it may look like you have the files covering a time period, but they may not be the most recent version number. • Use hsi_test_files (time_range) to see if the files on your computer are up-to-date • Use hsi_filedb_filename (time_range) to find the names of the files in time_range
