What is KnowledgePlex®? • Web portal for news, discussions, events, research, best practices, and other resources on affordable housing and community development • Created by a team of founding partners and implemented by the Fannie Mae Foundation • Audiences include practitioners, policy makers, grantors, and scholars • www.knowledgeplex.org

Community Data System Objectives • Meet needs of diverse users by providing access to data in multiple forms • Provide aids to assist users in interpreting and analyzing data • Integrate data and other KnowledgePlex content • Create a nationwide system that can be integrated with local community statistical systems
Overview of Content and Functions • Housing, social, economic data geographic scales from neighborhood to nation • Dynamic interfaces produce maps, charts, tables, statistical profiles • Aids to facilitate data use metadata, analytic guidebooks, illustrative analyses • Other resources • housing data books, housing market reports • directory of housing data resources on the Web
Data Sets • For version 1.0: • 1990 and 2000 Census • 2000 CHAS • 1997-2003 HMDA • 2004 Section 8 Expiring Use • Follow with additional small-area files for future releases • Incorporate selected indicators from two dozen additional sources for larger geographic areas (counties, metros, states)

Project Status and Schedule • Several nationwide data sets acquired and indicators and metadata prepared • Statistical profiles, user guides, and Web data directory under development • Version 1.0 released end of 2004 • Periodic upgrades/additions to system and data over next 2 years based on user testing and feedback
