  3. SCIENCE CO-OP We have a meeting TODAY (Thursday) at the BEGINNING of lunch in room 315.  We will be preparing for our first field trips and other activities  coming up next week.

Semester Break Exam Schedule Jan 21 @ 9-12pm Numeracy Exam for Last Names A-M Jan 22 @ 9-12pm Numeracy Exam for Last Names N-Z (plus any students who need IEP resource support, Math 9 Accelerated) Jan 24 @ 9-12pm English 12 Provincial Exam • Room numbers and names will be posted on all school entrances on day of exam.

HERITAGE WOODS ROBOTICS CLUB Heritage Woods Robotics Club is hosting an event on Saturday Feb. 02 . They are looking for volunteers to assist on Friday Feb. 01 after school with set-up for the event as well as volunteers for the actual event on Saturday Feb. 02 between 7:30am - 6pm.  You do NOT have to volunteer for the entire day, unless you want to! • Volunteers will be required to set-up the arena before the event begins as well as after each competition.  • If you are interested in Robotics/Engineering this would be a great opportunity to get some relevant volunteer experience as well as expose yourself to what is involved in Robotics. • If you are interested in helping out please see Mr. Zhuang in room 217 to sign up or to get more details.

  24. Upcoming Spring BCom Information Sessions at the UBC Sauder School of Business. These small gatherings provide a casual setting for prospective students in grades 8-12 to visit the UBC Vancouver campus, learn more about the BCom curriculum, tour UBC Sauder's teaching facilities, and hear from our incredible faculty. SFU @ Heritage Woods January 29th at lunch in the Library Topics will include: How to complete your application to-do list, self-reporting grades, how to check your application status, when to expect an admissions offer, more information regarding scholarships and financial aid, and what your next steps should be after receiving an admission offer to SFU. 

  26. The University of British Columbia is hosting Archimedes Talks, a speaker series aimed at talented high school students in the Lower Mainland interested in mathematics and engineering. The goal is to provide promising students with an opportunity to explore different aspects of math and applied science in an engaging on-campus environment. Registration includes three sessions (January 19, February 9, March 2) and every session includes two expert speakers, a tour of an interesting location on campus, and lunch. ATTENTION UBC APPLICANTS! • If you applied to UBC between Dec. 03 and Jan. 15 you MUST complete your STS transcript selection by January 31, 2019. • BC applicants who submit their UBC online application after December 3 must provide UBC with their Personal Education Number (PEN) and order a transcript via StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca by January 31. When ordering a transcript, applicants should select “Send my transcript now and allow this Post-Secondary Institution to request transcript updates” and choose the default date (one year from the date of their order), so that UBC can receive their interim and final grades continuously. • First-round offers of admission for applicants who submitted their UBC online application on or before December 3 are going out now and will continue until February.   30. Interested in $5,000? Apply to be nominated for the BC Excellence Scholarship. One HWSS student can be nominated. • To be considered you must hand in the completed application package to Ms. Butler or Mrs. Martin by Feb. 01, 2019 3:30pm. • Full criteria, rules and the application are available at: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/scholarships/provincial-scholarships/bc-excellence-scholarships • Your application must include: • Resume in the mandatory format • Two reference letters, one from your community and one from your school • A written statement, maximum 500 words, which must describe: • What led you to your most relevant community service, volunteer activity, and/or leadership role, and • What you learned from this experience, and • How this experience will benefit you in your chosen career path.

  31. The Beedie Luminaries Scholarship is a new scholarship for students who have faced financial adversity which may prevent them from attending post-secondary. To be eligible for a Beedie Luminaries Scholarship, applicants must: - Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for at least three years - Reside in the Lower Mainland - Be in Grade 12 - Have applied (or plan to apply) to a BC post-secondary institution or trade school for a full-time program commencing no later than September 2019 (only the selected eight institutions will be eligible in 2018/19 UBC, SFU, Capilano University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langara College, Douglas College, BCIT and JIBC). - Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year - Have faced financial adversity - Use funding for a post-secondary institution, trade school or college - Be endorsed by their school principal, a teacher or counsellor (required) and a community organization (optional). The letters of endorsement must be included with the application. - The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2019. This scholarship is worth up to $40,000 over a 4 year Bachelor’s degree or $15,000 for a 2 year college or trade diploma.  For more information visit: https://beedieluminaries.ca/
