Food Borne Illness • Food borne illness – an illness caused by eating foods or drinking beverages that contain harmful germs • Cook meat and chicken thoroughly • No raw cookie dough • Wash fruits and veggies • Scrub cutting boards • Store food and beverages properly • Throw items out that weren’t stored properly • No dented, leaking, or bulging canned foods

  3. Intolerance • Food intolerance – reaction of the body to a food or something in the food • Lactose intolerance – can’t digest the sugar in milk products. (sugar causes the sickness) • MSG – substances used to flavor foods that can cause headaches, breathing trouble, and fever

  4. Allergies • Food allergy – reaction to a food caused by the immune system • Milk, shellfish, peanuts, etc.

  5. Table Manners • Table manners – polite ways to eat • Wash your hands before • Napkin across lap • Wait until everyone is served to begin • Taste everything even if you think you won’t like it • Don’t put silverware back on the table after you use it • Don’t rush • Clean up spills if you spill • Say thank you
