Video commenting in the web? • Current status: only general comments without easy way to point and navigate to some specific position of the video clip • ”Just look at that stunt at 2:34 ...”
What is Victor? • Web-based multi-user video annotation tool with time sensitive comments • Exercise platform • Can be used as stand-alone tool or integrated to some CMS (Moodle module as proof of concept)
Main functionalities • Importing media to Victor (uploading or linking) • Video annotation • Assignments using video comments • Evaluation of submitted assignments • Role based access rights • Both functions and content • Support for single sign-on authentication (Shibboleth)
Client requirements • Web browser: Firefox or Internet Explorer • Media player required by content video: • RealPlayer • Quicktime Player • Windows Media Player • (Flash Player)
Server requirements • Linux or other Unix server • Apache web server • MySQL database • PHP Optional: • Shibboleth Service Provider (SP) software • Media server for long video content
Use case: Speech communication and negotiation skills • Video conference exercise at TUT • Victor used as a self reflection tool for students 9
Use case: Language studies • Swedish course at Helsinki School of Economics (MCU, recording and Victor server provided by University of Helsinki) • Victor used as a teacher’s feedback tool 10
Availability • Victor developed with support of Finnish universities, IT-Peda and VideoFunet freely available for Finnish institutions of higher education • Provided as small scale service by TUT/Hypermedia Laboratory • Co-operation possible with other partners
