The CWA, PWA, and WPA are all examples of Alphabet Agency work programs that gave jobs to millions The PWA was the first and gave money directly to the states to create jobs. The CWA came in November 1933 and built schools, roads, and paid schoolteachers. The WPA was created in 1935 and gave jobs to 8 million workers who built airports, roads, and public buildings. The WPA also employed artists, actors, and historians.
To help young adults who could not otherwise go to college, which program was created and what did it do? The NYA created work-study programs so students could work to pay their tuition. It also created training programs for technical jobs (like mechanics)

Why was the overproduction of farm goods a problem? How did the New Deal help? It forced the prices of farm goods to drop and farmer’s couldn’t make money AND The AAA paid farmers to grow less, which raised prices.
Why was buying on margin and speculation in the stock market a problem? How did the New Deal solve this? Buying on margin and speculation created a false bubble (high level) for prices in the stock market which eventually burst. AND The New Deal created the SEC to regulate stock market activity
How did banks fail and who did this affect? How did the New Deal help? Banks were heavily invested in the stock market and lost everything in the stock market crash. Thousands of bank accounts were lost. AND The Emergency Banking Relief Act closed all of the banks and only reopened those that passed inspection. The FDIC insured individual accounts so people could trust banks again.
How bad was unemployment? How did the New Deal help? Unemployment reached at least 25% on average. AND The New Deal created work programs like the CWA, PWA, WPA, and CCC to provide jobs. The SSA also created unemployment insurance.
How did farmers lose their farms and how did the New Deal help? Farmers lost their farms when the overproduction of farm goods caused them to lose money. AND The New Deal helped with the FSA, which loaned money to tenant farmers to buy their own farms.
Why were young people (teens and young adults) especially affected by the Great Depression? How did the New Deal help? Many schools closed and parents couldn’t pay for their older children. Also many couldn’t afford to go to college AND The Deal created the CCC to employ young men and the NYA was created to help students go to college
Describe how workers were treated poorly and how the New Deal helped. Workers were often not allowed to unionize or punished if they did. They also had long hours, low pay, and hazardous conditions. AND The Wagner Act allowed unions to unionize while the Fair Labor Standards Act set a 40 hour work week, minimum wage, and protected minors from hazardous conditions.
Why were elderly people badly affected by the Great Depression? How did the New Deal help? Many of the elderly lost their savings in the bank failures or the stock market crash. AND The SSA was created to provide a monthly pension to retired workers and their spouses.
