About Mount Fuji Mount Fuji is 3776 meters high and Japan’s highest Mountain. Mount Fuji is an active volcano, which most recently erupted in 1708. It stands the border between Yamanashi and shizuoka. Another easy way to view Mount Fuji is from the train trip between Tokyo and Osaka.
Mount Fuji is 35th of the tallest mountain in the world. Mount Fuji is considered one of the 3 Holy mountains( along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku.) More than 200,000 people climb to the top of Mount Fuji every year. Mount Fuji is 500m wide by 250m deep.
When Mount Fuji erupted On the 26th of October 1707, a new eruption announced itself with a large 8.4 magnitude earthquake devastating Honshu island, followed by several smaller earthquakes felt near Mt Fuji. The eruption started on the 16th of December 1707. On the first day of eruption, 72 houses and 3 Buddhist temples were destroyed. In Subassiri town 10 km from the Volcano.
The total erupted over 16 days. Violent explosions were recorded until 25th -27th of December, before the eruption calmed down and ended on the 1st of January 1708. 11-8,000 years ago when large lava flows were erupted that still forms 25% of the volume of the evidence today.
When there were eruptions In the past 3000 years, large explosives occurred in between phases of milder effusing activity.
