  1. Welcome To 3rd Grade Curriculum Night

  2. TEKS • Planning- All 3rd grade teachers plan together to ensure consistency across the grade level. • 3rdgrade newsletter is e-mailed Tuesdays and can be found on the website

  3. Reading Program • Reading workshops are taught in the form of a mini lesson. Then students practice that skill with silent reading. • Silent sustained reading is necessary for students to become better readers. • Research shows a minimum of 60 minutes is needed daily to reach the next grade level of reading. • 40 minutes of reading is our goal at school. • 20 minutes of reading is what we expect nightly at home.

  4. Grading Policy • Any work that is corrected is completed at school. The highest grade possible on corrected work is 70. • Study hall - We hold study hall during recess 3 days a week. This is for unfinished work that is overdue.

  5. STAAR • Reading and Math - state mandated standardized test • Assess- 3rd grade reading and math skills based on TEKS • April 22 – Math • April 23 – Reading • Student holidays on April 18 and 21 • TEA website for more information

  6. Class Shirts • Wear class shirts every Monday, on field trips, and on Field Day.

  7. Volunteers • All volunteers must have security clearance! • Security clearance must be done each year. The link can be found on the Chandler website.

  8. Cheetah Challenge • School wide intervention time • Monday and Tuesday Math • Wednesday and Thursday Reading

  9. Field Trips • We will take one field trip each semester. • We will also take a Music field trip in November.

  10. Tuesday Folders • Important PTA information- school wide, graded papers. • Please return on Wednesday.

  11. Homework • Shift the responsibility to the student • Math facts • Reading • Packet • Agenda • Take Home Folder

  12. Agendas • Parents - please sign nightly recognizing that your child has read 20 minutes and practiced math facts. Your child is responsible for asking you to sign the agenda. • Freebies - 5 per 9 weeks

  13. Take Home Folders • Communication - from school to home • Conduct Chart – Parents only need to sign the Take Home Folder if the student received a signature at school.
