Objective 9-5 Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions • TASK: • Students will simplifying rational expressions by • Finding a least common multiple between two expressions • Using that LCM and multiplying individual expressions by parts of it to achieve a least common denominator • Then add or subtract the expressions as appropriate • Students will clear complex fractions (fractions in numerator and/or denominator) by • Multiplying by a LCD of the numerator and denominator OR • Simplifying numerator and denominator with a least common denominator respectively and then working a division problem into a multiplication problem. • WHY: • Students need to be able to simplifying rational expressions for example find the focal length of a camera lens.
