Deliverable 4 • Review of RCT funding proposals to identify reasons for funding and rejecting proposals and survey of LMIC trialists to identify barriers and facilitators to securing funding • Modified. No longer reviewing funding proposals • Web-based package of resources to help trialists secure funding

Objectives for WP3 • Explore barriers and mechanisms to improving access to funding for researchers in LMIC who wish to undertake high quality pragmatic RCTs on priority health service and public health questions • To develop a package of resources to improve access to information and support on RCT funding for such researchers

  4. Planned Activities • An email-based survey of • senior trialists in Latin America and Africa • Major funding agencies • Request information on • The number of RCTs funded over the last five years, their research question/s and sources of support • Barriers and facilitators to securing funding for RCTs led by researchers in low and middle income settings • Suggested mechanisms for addressing barriers to securing funding and to strengthening facilitator

  5. Output • Develop, using participatory methods, a tool to improve access to information and support on RCT funding for trialists in LMIC

Barriers • Area of interest outside funding agencies priority • Lack of experience in writing proposals • Prejudices against the country in which the research will be carried out • Lack of visibility of the investigator • Lack of trained or experienced personnel • Lack of laboratory capacity • Lack of understanding of requirements of funding agencies • Political environment of a specific country
