  1. The Current TRILL Header Option Feature Donald E. Eastlake, 3rd 155 Beaver Street Milford, MA, 01757 USA <d3e3e3@gmail.com> TRILL Header Options

  2. Decided and Set in Concrete • There will be a TRILL options feature with options appearing between the fixed length part of the TRILL Header and the encapsulated frame. • The Op-Length field in the TRILL Header is 5 bits and is in units of 4 bytes so the maximum options area is 124 bytes. Zero indicates no options are present. TRILL Header Options

  3. Decided and Set in Concrete • TRILL Header TRILL Ethertype V R M OpLng Hop Egress RBridge Nickname Ingress RBridge Nickname Options (if any) … Size TRILL Header Options

  4. Decided and Set in Concrete • There will be a way to distinguish whether an option is • Critical or non-critical • Hop-by-hop or ingress-to-egress • If the Op-Length field is non-zero, the top two bits of the first byte of the options area indicate the presence of a critical hop-by-hop and the presence of a critical ingress-to-egress option. TRILL Header Options

  5. Other Decided Issues • Options will be 32-bit aligned. • There will be an area of bits encoded options followed by an area of TLV encoded options. • The TLV encoded options must be in the following order: • Critical hop-by-hop options • Non-critical hop-by-hop options • Critical ingress-to-egress options • Non-critical ingress-to-egress options TRILL Header Options

  6. Details in Current Draft • Format of Bit Encoded Options Area Critical Hop-by-Hop Non-Critical Hop-by-Hop Critical Ingress-to-Egress Non-Critical Ingress-to-Egress Critical Ingress-to-Egress Summary Bit Critical Hop-by-Hop Summary Bit TRILL Header Options

  7. Details in Current Draft (cont.) • Format of TLV Encoded Options Value …….. Length in Bytes “Type” Mutable Non-Critical Ingress-to-Egress TRILL Header Options

  8. Current Drafts • Material above in this presentation is fromdraft-ietf-trill-rbridge-options-03.txt which also gives details of a couple of initial options • Additional suggested options are in the following document, which is just a holding location and not intended to advance to RFC:draft-eastlake-trill-rbridge-more-options-01.txt TRILL Header Options
