The Need and the GSEP Pledge 1.3 billion people or one-fifth of the world’s population lacks access to electricity 95 percent of those people live in sub-Saharan Africa or the developing countries in Asia The UN goal is to bring universal access to the planet by 2030, while simultaneously promoting renewables and energy efficiency GSEP’s Berlin Commitments include a pledge to distribute 50,000 solar lanterns where needed through a partnership with the Global BrightLight Foundation.
Supply Chain • Manufacturer • Shipper • Clearing Agent • Local Partner • Distributor
Here’s What We’ve Learned • There is no single solution to providing electricity to the 1.3 billion people who lack access to it. • The right local partner is essential to gain trust and confidence of consumers. By nature, partners vary by location. • Proper training and follow-up maintenance is essential. • Be prepared to offer more than one solar lantern project. • Bottom of the pyramid consumer may be able to afford more than you think for a lantern and cell phone charger. • Because of the above characteristics, each Global BrightLight program is unique. Global BrightLight has developed a process that does apply to each location.
