Limitation of Findings • Delayed response from Dept. of Education • Short data collection window • Validity of the participant’s responses
Summary • Past 30 day use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and prescription drugs positively correlated with age • Perception of risk mostly moderate to great • Perception of parental disapproval mostly wrong and very wrong • Perception of peer disapproval wrong and very wrong
Summary • Analysis by grade revealed progressive pattern of more substance use, less perception of risk, less parental disapproval and even less perception of peer disapproval as youth get older (grade increases). • Analysis by gender revealed more substance use and less perception of risk among male youth • Prevention education likely beneficial for all youth • Education and information targeting youth could be beneficial for self and peers • Education and information targeting parents could still be beneficial, but should not be done at the expense of reducing efforts focused on peer education.
