AHAN Vision AHAN believes that everyone has a right to safe, secure and affordable housing
Our Mission We will strive to create more affordable housing options for people who are precariously housed or homeless using a variety of approaches including: • collaborative networking • housing development • capacity building and; • advocacy
AHAN National Housing Day Each year, the AHAN Information Network Committee dedicates its efforts to organize an event that brings our colleagues together from all areas of Hastings County. We focus on what is relevant in our community today and reflect on the challenges and successes of the past year.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Canada's National Housing Agency • Working in partnership with AHAN and other local agencies to host National Housing Day events • Facilitating the creation of new affordable housing through CMHC tools and resources • Sharing innovative affordable housing solutions from across Ontario and Canada
National Housing Day • November 22 is marked as National Housing Day across Canada – commemorating the day in 1998 when then-Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman and the mayors of Canada’s biggest cities adopted a Declaration from the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee to declare homelessness a national disaster. • The mayors, invoking their power to declare a state of emergency, called on the federal and provincial governments to take emergency actions to support homeless people
Since then, the day has been adopted by community organizations across the country, municipalities and even Canada’s national housing agency (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) as a day devoted to housing issues and housing solutions. • 9th year that AHAN has celebrated this day • Reflection of past events
