1. What is an “Oyster Castle” Manufactured concrete block designed to be instant habitat for oyster spat and oyster growth once deployed in an area designated with potential due to the availability of juvenile oyster spat.
They are a 12” square block, 8” high, with certain features that enable them to be stackable and interlocking. The stackable and interlocking nature of the blocks lend themselves to the stability and wave resistance of the assembly and installation.
These block are currently being used successfully on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and will be marketed to Restoration groups and agencies in coastal states/regions of the eastern United States.
Oyster Castles are manufactured on a conventional “ concrete block”(CMU) machine in standard molds with special raw materials.
