Solid –solid interaction Potassium iodide Lead nitrate
Rainbow Tube • Use a 500 – 1000 mL measuring cylinder • Add 1.5 - 2 cm 1.0 molL-1 acid (HCl or H2SO4 but this fizzes quite badly) • Fill with tap water and add universal indicator to a strong colour. • Dump in about ½ tablespoon crystalline washing soda (Na2CO3.10H2O) • Tip 11/2 times • Stir if necessary
Rainbow Racks are fun too! • Give students: 6 test tubes, a dropper, universal indicator, dropper bottles of 0.1 molL-1 NaOH and 0.1 molL-1 HCl and tell the to make 1 test tube of each colour.
