Ventilator Project Fall 2005, Purdue University EPICS
Children <2 years old Not yet walking Who has these portable ventilation systems?
How much equipment is there? • Ventilator • Oxygen tank • Cardiac apnea monitor • Ventilator AC Adapter • Ventilator back-up battery • Suctioning bag • Cardiac apnea monitor AC Adapter • Tubing • Diaper Bag • Ambou Bag
What is the problem? • Low mobility • Unorganized equipment • Lack of security during transportation
The original plan… Three dimensional design layout of single unit system 1 squared block = 1 real squared inch
What Worked • Ventilator -Protruded design • Increases ventilation • Allows room for tubing • Viewing Windows • Clear Vinyl Material • Incorporation of Oxygen Tank
What Didn’t Work • 2.7 feet wide • the average doorway is 3.0 feet wide • Weight Concern • Ventilator Back Up Battery is 30 lbs alone
Current Design 14 “
Deliverables • Single Separable Unit • The unit will join the • Ventilator • Ventilator AC Adapter • Ventilator Back-Up Battery • Cardiac Apnea Monitor • Cardiac Apnea Monitor AC Adapter • Oxygen Tank • Suction bag • Diaper Space • Ambou Bag
Possible Roadblocks • Brand New Team • Young Team • Weak Communication with Community Partner • Design Uncertainty • Material Choice • Patient Safety Requirements
Future Goals • Finish Current Design Phase • Move on to Modeling and Basic Production • Adaptability to Multiple Patients: • Different Strollers • Different Ventilator Equipment • Patient and Goal Satisfaction
