  1. How Energy Gets the Ball Rolling… The Sun and Earth’s Spheres

  2. The Earth’s is made up of four interconnecting spheres: • 1) The Lithosphere 2) The Hydrosphere • 3) The Atmosphere 4) The Biosphere

  3. The Lithosphere • The Lithosphere is the Earth’s crust. It was the first sphere to from and provided the basis for the other three spheres. The lithosphere is broken up into plates which move over the asthenosphere layer of the mantle

  4. The Hydrosphere • The hydrosphere includes all of the bodies of water on Earth; the oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, glaciers, etc.

  5. The Atmosphere • The Atmosphere is made up of invisible gasses like oxygen and nitrogen and is partially visible with the formation of clouds which is the condensation of water vapour. This is the sphere that produces all of our climate and weather conditions.

  6. The Biosphere • The Biosphere includes all life on the planet, from single cell organisms to life as complex as humans, and from life in the oceans to life on land.

  7. The Sun • What helps to interconnect all of these spheres is the energy from the Sun which either directly or indirectly kicks starts the processes that occur all around us. Read “Solar Energy” and “Solar Energy Takes Other Forms” (p. 28 to 31). Define bold key terms and answer Q. #1.b), c), and 3.
