Existing Conditions at the University • Disconnected • The River Campus and the Medical Center should be better linked • The University and the City should collaborate to enliven surrounding communities • Incoherent • No clear edges or boundaries exist • No identity • No sense of entry or gateway • Sprawling • Growth has become too spread out and expansive • Campus has become car dependent
Master Plan Principles – One University, One Plan • Connections • Between the River Campusand the Medical Center • Between areas of student life • Between the University and the City • Coherence • Maintain and reinforce our intimate scale • Reinforces “One University – One Plan” • Compaction • Grow through infill vs. sprawl • Reinforce the University’s edges
Master Plan Growth Strategies • Respect responsible capacity of the land while retaining the quality of the campus • Collaborate with adjacent communities on economic development and quality of life issues • Accommodate growth on infill sites • Build upon past investments in the campus and physical plan • Become a model sustainable campus – encourage environmental innovation!
