How does the number of paper clip and the height of the release affect how many times the paper helicopter spins? By: Yulisa Flores, Jose Romero, Lorelayn Coto
Background Galileo made an experiment that involved the size and shape of an item. He dropped multiple items, which varied in size and weight, and when they were dropped from the tower of Pisa and all objects hit the ground at the same time. The weight of the item would create less spins and last faster. • http://inventors.about.com/od/gstartinventors/a/Galileo_Gali ei.htm • http://www.primaryscience.ie/media/pdfs/col/ paper_helicopters.pdf
If the weight _______ (inc/dec) and the height of the release ________ (inc/dec), then the number of spins _________ (inc/dec).
Independent Variables • Weight of one paper (computer paper) • Height of release( starting point 4 ft) • Dependent Variables • The times the helicopter spins • Constants and control • Material of the paper • Clips (material) • Environment paper helicopter dropped off • Length of propellers helicopter • First trial no paper clip • Same helicopter • Same size of paper clip(small)
Procedure: Make helicopter by folding them as the hand out or worksheet. Mark 1 wing with the dark marker or bright marker, depends on the paper color of the helicopter Drop the helicopter with no paper clip as the control from the measuring meter 4ft Add 5 paper clip, 2 in each side and one at the bottom(3 times each) from 5ft 10 paper clip with 5 paper clip in each side (3 times each) , 6ft Record all data Record the average by adding the three trial of each then dividing it by 3 Material 1 Computer paper 1 Marker ( dark or real bright color) measuring meter 15 paper clips(size small) Scissors
