  2. What is it? • A hexagonal prism is a prism with a hexagonal base. • It has 8 faces, 18 edges, and 12 vertices. To see a picture, click here.

  3. Contents • Perimeter of Base • Area of Base • Surface Area • Volume • Sources • Example Problem • Fun Stuff End

  4. Area of Base Ab = 3as Where a = apothem length, s = side length Table of Contents

  5. Volume V = Ah Where A is the area of the base and h is the height. Table of Contents

  6. Return

  7. Surface Area SA = 6as + 6shSA = 6as + Ph Where a = apothem length, s = side length, h = height, P is the perimeter of the base Table of Contents

  8. Sources • Wikipedia • Easy Calculation Table of Contents

  9. Perimeter of Base Pb= 6s Where s = side length Table of Contents

  10. Example Problem Find the surface area and volume of a hexagonal prism with the given apothem length 4 inches, side length 5 inches, and height 6 inches. Step 1: Find the perimeter of the base. Pb = 6 x 5 = 30 in Step 2: Find the area of the base. Ab = 3 x 4 x 5 = 60 in2 Step 3: Find the surface area. Step 4: Find the volume. SA = (6 x 4 x 5) + (30 x 6) = 120 + 180 = 300 in2 V = 60 x 6 = 360 in3 Table of Contents
