  1. The Settlement Game 3.2 A quick overview

  2. Setting up… • Each person needs to choose a different settlement site • Look at the resources available on your site and choose one plant and one animal resource to collect. • You may want to make note of which dice rolls effect you on your scorecard • Note that everyone starts with 100 population

  3. Playing… • Starting with the player whose birthday is closest to today, each player will roll one animal (red) and one plant (black) die. • If your settlement is collecting the resources rolled, note a 10 person population gain on your scorecard • every player can gain from everyone else’s dice rolls

  4. At Round’s End… • When every player has had a chance to roll, a year/round is completed. • At the end of the “year,” draw two cards from the bonus deck. Apply the bonus (or disaster) to everyone at your table and then tally up your starting population for the next round • Remove those bonus cards from the game until the deck runs out, then reshuffle. • Every time you gain 100 population (and as long as you sustain it), add another of your settlement’s resources • IF your settlement drops back below that threshold at round’s end, you must choose a resource to stop gathering

  5. Trading and Hostile Barbarian Invasions… • When your settlement tops 400 population, you may attempt to trade with another player. Each chooses a commodity to trade, and both benefit from the extra dice roll • Both parties must agree to the trade or the route is not established • If at any time a player rolls doubles, THAT player is invaded by barbarians! • Immediately roll both dice again to determine how many of your settlers were lost • For people in the wooded/riverine areas, multiply the HIGHER die roll by 5 and subtract that number from your population • For people on the Plains, TOTAL the ROLL and multiply by 5 and subtract that number (PLAINS has extra bonus cards in the deck to reflect the ease of food production) • On the MESA, multiply the LOWER die roll by 5 and subtract (easier to defend, but only one lower quality MESA-only bonus in the deck)

  6. Dice Rolls Typo on the Owl Rampage Bonus Card – SHOULD say SUBTRACT 20 population! • VEGGIES • WHEAT • BARLEY • OATS • WILD RICE • FRUITS • NUTS • MEAT • GOATS • PIGS • TURKEYS • DEER • SMALL GAME • FISH
