Simeon Simeon was the son of Jacob and Leah and the founder of the Israelite tribe of Simeon. His name is said to have come from the word shama (“to hear”) because Leah believed that the Lord heard what she had said about hating Jacob and therefore, gave her a son. Simeon and his brother, Levi, are known for their massacre in Shechem. Jacob and Levi murdered many Shechemites to get revenge for the rape of their sister, Dinah. Simeon is also known for his antagonism against Joseph. Joseph imprisoned Simeon, because he thought it would be best to separate him from Levi; Joseph was scared that after the massacre in Shechem, Simeon might destroy Egypt. Simeon is known for his fearless and violent behavior. http://bowyer.boltonmuseums.org.uk/media/637.jpg http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=727&letter=S
